The OSM module with the NXP i.MX 8ULP processor from F&S Elektronik is now available. This compact module combines high performance and extensive functions without the need for connectors and is particularly suitable for portable, battery-operated devices and Industry 4.0 applications.

The i.MX 8ULP processor is characterized by extremely low power consumption, integrated security with EdgeLock® Secure Enclave and a flexible power management system. Our latest addition to the product portfolio is the 15.6" Powertip TFT display, which has been specially developed for demanding environments. DATA MODUL at the Münchner-Kindl-Lauf 2024

Last Saturday, we showed our sporting commitment and combined our involvement with a good cause: With our ambitious colleagues, we took to the starting line of the 17th Münchner-Kindl-Lauf! The starting signal was given at the idyllic Seestadl in Munich's English Garden, where we took part in a 5 or 10 kilometre run.

Equipped with DATA MODUL sports outfits and a portion of ambition, our athletic commitment went beyond pure sporting competition: each registration supported the Munich Outpatient Children's Hospice by donating part of the registration fee to the institution, which cares for families with a terminally or seriously ill child or parent. We already made a Christmas donation to this organisation last year, and we are delighted that our running fever is also doing something good.

A big thank you to everyone who took part! We are already looking forward to the next event together!

We are pleased to introduce the new 7" TFT display from Toppan/Ortustech, which is based on the advanced Blanview-F technology and the proven Blanview technology. Specially designed for use in demanding environments, this product offers outstanding outdoor readability combined with low power consumption and high robustness.

The COM79H7M53FLC is characterised by a contrast ratio of 1000:1, a brightness of 600 cd/m² and a wide viewing angle of 88° from all directions. With an LED backlight lifetime of 50,000 hours and a vibration resistance of up to 6.8G, it is ideal for various outdoor industrial applications, including agriculture, e-mobility, mobile and battery-powered devices as well as heavy-duty applications.

In addition to this product, we present two other 7" models, the COM70H7M24ULC and the COM70H7M40ULC. These TFTs are based on VA technology and offer even lower power consumption.

We are pleased to introduce our new 28.5 inch A2 colour e-paper display from Sharp. This innovative display offers over 65,000 colours thanks to the latest Spectra6 technology from E Ink. Its resolution of 3060 x 2160 pixels and extended temperature range of 0° to 50°C make it ideal for retail, indoor signage, digital out-of-home advertisements (DOOH), restaurant displays and smart city applications.

The slim and lightweight design of the Sharp A2 colour e-paper display makes it the perfect choice for customers looking for scalable and customisable solutions. The narrow bezel allows for seamless multiple displays. The e-paper technology also makes it extremely energy efficient, as power is only required when changing images.
The Sharp A2 colour e-paper display is available immediately and is expected to go into series production in the middle of the year. Further products in poster size (A1: 40.5 inches and A0: 57.3 inches) are planned for the future.

We are pleased to introduce an extended range of small e-paper displays from 1.54 inches from DKE. These are now available in a 4-colour version (black/white/red/yellow) as standard, offering improved flexibility in the colour design of content. The additional combination of red and yellow opens up new possibilities for displaying information in applications where small e-paper displays are typically used, such as electronic shelf labelling.

The displays offer an extremely wide viewing angle, a temperature range of 0° to +40°C and a high DPI rate. As e-paper displays only require power to change the image, they are extremely energy-efficient. Thanks to their reflective properties and always-on mode, the image content always remains clearly legible.

We are pleased to announce the successful development of a customised 3.5-inch Human Machine Interface (HMI) unit that we developed specifically for a coffee machine manufacturer. The development was carried out in close co-operation with the customer, taking into account specific design requirements and cost considerations.

The HMI unit is based on a cost-efficient STM32 (Cortex M7) based embedded board and offers an intuitive user interface that ensures seamless integration into existing systems. The high-resolution 3.5-inch TFT display with IPS Wide View Technology guarantees brilliant colours and a brightness of 700cd. The black panel effect is enhanced by the applied full bonding process, which ensures an appealing aesthetic.

We will be presenting two exciting keynotes at this year's electronic displays conference in Nuremberg.

On 10 April from 2:55 to 3:15pm, Andreas Huber, Head of Business Development from DATA MODUL, will talk about the advantages of e-Paper displays, especially outdoors, in his keynote "e-Paper for Outdoor Usage" and will address challenges such as increased temperatures, UV resistance and lighting, with a special focus on the optical bonding of the frontlight.

On 11 April, Claus Vogt, Head of Products & Markets - Display from DATA MODUL, will present the keynote "Transparent Displays" from 3:05 to 3:25pm. This will cover the technological differences compared to classic OLED displays, advantages and disadvantages as well as application scenarios for transparent displays in HMIs, monitors or in the digital signage market.

The electronic displays conference takes place from 10 to 11 April and offers an excellent platform for professional exchange on the latest developments in display technology.

New to our portfolio is a high-resolution 3.5" TFT display from the manufacturer Toppan/Ortustech.

The COM35H3R07ULC is based on the optimised Blanview 3 technology, which enables a further improvement in the reflection of the TFTs. Thanks to this technology, the TFT display can now be read optimally even in direct sunlight with an LED illumination of only 400 cd/m², while the power consumption remains comparatively low. With a resolution of 640 x 960 dots and a contrast ratio of 700:1, the new TFT display delivers razor-sharp and brilliant images. It is ideal for medical applications, battery-powered devices, mobile applications and various outdoor applications.

It features an extended temperature range of -20 to +70 °C and an LED lifetime of around 70,000 hours. The display is available in portrait mode and has a viewing angle of 80°/80°/80°.

Did you know that we offer an innovative voice control for industrial HMI applications that enables touch-free control of machines and devices?

Especially in situations where operators do not have a hand free to touch a device, our voice control offers an efficient and convenient solution. It can be used both online and offline. In offline mode, a limited set of commands is available, allowing the user to perform the most important functions of the device by voice command. The microphone is configured to filter out ambient noise and recognise only the user's voice, providing excellent handling. The system can be connected via a 5V or 3.3V power supply as well as via line-in or USB audio connection and can be connected to our i.MX8Mm SBC.

At this year's Embedded World in Nuremberg, we presented an impressive demo that clearly demonstrated the advantages of voice control. With the help of keywords such as "set colour to" and "green", an LED strip could be controlled and its colour adjusted. The microphone had a selective effect and could clearly recognise the user's voice despite strong ambient noise. Our voice control offers great potential for touchless control of signage and POS/POI applications, as well as for controlling machines and devices in industrial environments.

We now offer the option to use the in-house developed maXcs software with the standard web browsers on numerous signage monitors. Airports in Singapore, Hong Kong and Stuttgart or at other facilities such as amusement parks are already successfully working with the software. Customers can now also use conventional web browsers to display text, images and videos. The maXcs software includes numerous key features and enables customers to implement projects cost-efficiently and flexibly without being bound to a specific hardware determined by the manufacturer.

Discover the features of our Ambient Light Sensor Board, which automatically adjusts the brightness of the display to the ambient light conditions. This not only extends the lifetime of the display, but also saves energy.

The sensor detects light in the spectrum of the human eye and is perfectly suited for applications such as self-check-in/check-out, user recognition and access authorization or for successful queue management e.g. in retail. The board is designed to work with our proprietary eMotion NT scaler boards and features a high-sensitivity, low-power light sensor technology with I²C interface. It offers excellent IR and UV rejection, as well as integrated 50/60Hz noise suppression. The measured light intensity is used to adjust the display brightness. The board features a wide temperature range and can be modified and customized upon customer request.

The electronic displays conference in Nuremberg will be starting shortly, and DATA MODUL will once again be represented there with two exciting keynotes.

On 15 March from 2:00 to 2:20, Robert Meier, Product Manager at DATA MODUL's Industrial Division, will give a presentation on "Challenge accepted: Handheld Devices for Industrial Usage", in which he will explain the specific requirements that handheld devices must meet in industrial environments.

On 16 March from 09:10 to 09:30, Claus Vogt, Head of Display Solutions at DATA MODUL, will give a presentation entitled "E-Paper and Art-Displays: Paper Goes Digital". He will present the functionality, advantages and disadvantages as well as application examples of E-paper and art displays.

The electronic displays conference is an annual event for display technology and will take place from 15 to 16 March in Nuremberg. It offers a platform for exchange, networking and presentations on the latest developments in display technology.

We are expanding our product portfolio from the Narrow Bezel series with new monitors optimised for Reaction To Fire in sizes 32, 43, 49 and 55 inches. The monitors are tested in accordance with DIN EN 13823 and, based on the results obtained, can be classified in Reaction To Fire class A2-s1, d0 in accordance with DIN EN 13501. According to this, the monitors are classified as "non-combustible" and can also be used in escape and rescue routes according to building regulations.

A new 7" WVGA display from AUO which is ideal for industrial HMI applications will soon be available. Thanks to Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle (AHVA) technology, which is comparable to IPS, it features an extremely wide viewing angle of 89° (L/R/U/D), making it easy to read from any direction.

The new display with the designation G070VW01 V012 has an LVDS interface, has a brightness of 400 nits, and can be used in an operating temperature range from -30 °C to +85 °C. The first samples are expected to be available at the end of December/beginning of January 2023.

We have three new server-on-module families from our partner Congatec in our portfolio. The x86-based COM-HPC server modules in sizes E and D as well as the COM Express Type 7 modules are based on the latest Intel Xeon D processors (codename: Ice Lake D) and, thanks to their extended temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C, are particularly well suited for a wide range of industrial, outdoor and IoT applications, but also for use in edge computing and transportation.

The new x86 COM-HPC server-on-modules have up to 20 available cores and enable an enormously high memory bandwidth with up to 8 RAM sockets, which is essential for server workloads. In addition, the server modules have TCC/TSN-based real-time Ethernet.

We have recently started offering the MiP displays of our supplier Sharp including a suitable backlight solution. Due to their reflective technology, MiP displays are generally already characterised by an excellent image display - even in direct sunlight - and for this reason do not necessarily require additional backlighting. However, in environments that tend to be dimly lit or dark, the readability of the display can become a challenge. By integrating a backlight, we ensure that content is perfectly visible to users at all times, regardless of prevailing ambient lighting conditions.

Following intensive consultations as well as risk assessments with regard to a potential upcoming Covid-19 autumn wave in Munich, we have decided to cancel this year's participation at electronica in November 2022. A decision that was definitely not easy for us, as Dr. Florian Pesahl, CEO of DATA MODUL AG, explains, since electronica is considered the most important leading trade fair in the industry.

“For us, electronica has always been one of the most important trade fairs – we already worked intensively on the preparations. The decision to cancel the participation was therefore very difficult for us. Nevertheless, we see it as our duty to make a renewed risk assessment for the coming months. As the health as well as the safety of our customers, suppliers, and employees is always our top priority and at the same time we are confronted with partly extremely increased procurement and exhibition costs, we have decided against participation. Even though we are refraining from participating in electronica 2022, we believe that this decision is a sign of sustainable business towards our customers and partners. And we are looking forward to 2023 with more confidence than ever, when we will participate in various trade fairs as usual”, says Dr. Florian Pesahl.

Recently, we passed the test to prove the IPX9K protection class according to the ISO 20653:2013-02-15 standard. The successful certification with the currently highest ingress protection class underlines the high resistance of our devices to water during high-pressure and steam jet cleaning and proves that our monitors function perfectly even under harsh environmental conditions.

During the ingress protection tests performed, the device is exposed to a high-pressure water jet heated to a temperature of 80°C at close range. In turn, the product is rotated on a turntable and sprayed with the water jet in four positions for 30 seconds each. If the product remains watertight, it has successfully passed the endurance test.

We have a new TFT from Toppan/Ortustech in our portfolio. Previously only available up to 10.4", we now offer the new 12.1" COM121H9M18SSS which is the largest Blanview display from the manufacturer up to now. The patented Blanview F technology, based on FFS technology (fringe-field switching), ensures excellent readability of the screen content even under direct sunlight. In addition, it is characterized by its low power consumption, making it ideal for outdoor use and for mobile, battery-powered applications.

The new display has a resolution of 800 x 600 dots, a brightness of 600cd/m2, a contrast ratio of 1200:1 and an extended temperature range of -30° to +70°. Thanks to the viewing angle of 88° (L/R/U/D), the screen content can be read excellently from any direction. The LED backlight lifetime of 70,000 hours is in the upper performance range.

As JDI recently announced, all passive LC displays of the manufacturer will be discontinued. For some of these graphics modules we offer suitable successor products, which perfectly match the JDI displays in terms of performance and functionality.

At our production site in Weikersheim, we have installed a new, high-resolution LED wall measuring 2.88m x 1.62m, which can now be visited by customers by appointment. The LED wall features a brightness of 1000cd/m2 as well as a pixel pitch of 1.5mm and is therefore ideal for meetings, presentations or advertising and information displays. Thanks to their modular design, LED walls are individually scalable in terms of size and format.

A new 10.4" SVGA TN display from AUO is now available. The G104STN01.6 has an LVDS interface, a brightness of 700cd (SVGA) and has an LED lifetime of up to 50,000 hours, which can be extended even further by using the dimming function.

A special feature of the new SVGA display is the integrated reverse scan function. Thanks to this technology, the image of the display can be rotated by 180° so that the higher viewing angle is at the top or bottom, depending on the requirements of the application area.

With an extended temperature range of -30°C to +80°C and a long-term availability of at least three years, the new display is ideal for all industrial HMI applications in indoor and semi-outdoor areas.

New to our portfolio are two new 6.5" models from the Advanced Class of the Professional Series from Tianma. The P0650VGF1MA00 and the P0650VGF1MA10 have a VGA resolution of 640x480, a contrast ratio of 900:1 and are characterised by an extended operating temperature range of -30°C to 80° C as well as a wide viewing angle of 85° in all directions. In addition, both also have an LVDS interface.

Both models differ in terms of brightness values and the service life of the LED chips used. While the P0650VGF1MA00 has a brightness of 1200 cd/m² and a backlight lifetime of 100K hours, the less expensive P0650VGF1MA10 offers a brightness of 800 cd/m² and a backlight lifetime of 70K hours and has an already integrated LED driver. The new Tianma displays are therefore ideally suited for applications in industry, for outdoor applications with high ambient brightness or in the medical sector.

In Q2 we will expand our portfolio by a new 10.4" XGA display from Tianma's Professional Series. The P1040XGF1MA00 has a resolution of 1024 x 768 and a wide viewing angle of 88° in all directions. Thanks to the LVDS interface, 100k hours backlight lifetime and an extended operating temperature range of -30° to 80° C, the new Tianma XGA display is an excellent alternative to the Mitsubishi displays that have been discontinued on the market and also impresses with a high luminance of 1300 cd/m2. In May, we will add a new 6.5" 4:3 VGA display from AUO to our portfolio. Unlike most 4:3 displays, the new TFT is not based on TN or MVA technology, but is equipped with AHVA technology (Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle). Compared to its predecessor model (G065VN01 V2), it convinces not only with higher contrast values of 1000:1 (compared to 600:1), but also with its wide viewing angle of 89° in all directions (compared to 80°/80°/70°/70°).

In Q2 we will have a new 12.1" SVGA display (800x600 resolution) from AUO in our portfolio. Compared to other 12.1" models in 4:3 format, which usually only have a brightness between 300cd and 600cd and a backlight lifetime of 50,000 hours, the new AUO display has much higher brightness values of 1500cd and around 80,000 hours backlight lifetime. As a high-brightness display, it is ideal for use in all outdoor applications. If necessary, however, the backlight lifetime can also be extended by reducing the brightness.

The new AUO display is based on TN technology, has a viewing angle of 80°/80°/65°/75°, an operating temperature range of -30°C to +85°C and an LVDS interface.

Convince yourself of our competence in the field of modern system expansion. We offer numerous practical and innovative extensions with which monitor and panel PC solutions can be equipped. If desired, they can for example be equipped with a camera and an appropriate software, to enable “face recognition” or “face detection”. The captured image material is evaluated in order to subsequently execute predefined actions. The use of face detection can be particularly advantageous for the recognition of persons, e.g. at entrance controls. Possible fraud attempts can be prevented thanks to the so-called "Anti Spoofing" feature. In this case, the system is able to distinguish precisely whether only a photo of a person or a real person is being captured.

Regarding our embedded solutions, we offer hardware with already integrated AI accelerators that support "deep learning" both via cloud solutions and locally on the embedded system. We have a new TFT by Toppan/Ortustech in our portfolio. Previously only available up to 10.4", we now offer the new 12.1" COM121T9M14CSS, which is the largest transmissive display from the manufacturer up to now. The patented Blanview F technology, based on FFS technology (fringe-field switching), ensures excellent readability of the screen content even under direct sunlight.

The viewing angle of 88° (L/R/U/D) guarantees excellent readability from any direction. The TFT has a LVDS interface, a resolution of 800 x 600 dots, a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and brightness values of 600cd/m². In addition, it features an extended temperature range of -30°C to +70°C and a storage temperature range of -30° to +80°C. The LED backlight lifetime of 70,000 hours is in the upper performance range. Thanks to its technical features, the new Toppan/Ortustech 12.1" display can be used very well in the field of medical applications, EV charging stations or for parking guidance systems. The TFT is compatible with the discontinued Mitsubishi TFTs and is characterised by a long-term availability of approx. 5 years.

We have expanded our display portfolio with new TFTs by Innolux in the sizes 7", 10.4”, 12.1” and 23.8". Thanks to brightness values of 1000 cd/m² and contrast values between 800:1 and 1000:1 (depending on the model), screen contents of the new high-brightness displays can be read effortlessly and in excellent colour quality at any time, even in direct sunlight. The integrated AAS (Azimuthal Anchoring Switch) technology, an IPS variant from Innolux, allows a viewing direction-independent display up to tilt angles of 89°.
Designed for 24/7 operation and a maximum operating temperature range of -30°C to 85°C, the new TFTs (G070ACE-LH1, G104XCE-LH1, G121ICE-LH1, G238HCJ-LH1) can be used in a wide variety of outdoor applications such as POS, kiosk and ticketing systems, vending machines or for smart charging solutions in the e-mobility sector. The new TFTs are announced for the second half of 2022.

As a professional supplier of digital display systems, we can equip display systems with numerous additional features on request, such as touch extensions, audio components, cameras and various sensors. With the help of proximity sensors, a comparatively energy-saving operation of the entire system can be realised. Since the display is only activated when the integrated sensors register proximity by means of infrared or laser technology, significantly less energy is required than with convention-al display systems. Depending on the customer's requirements and the desired location, either short-range sensors (for short distances of less than 1m) or long-range sensors (for distances of up to 7m) can be used. The use of proximity sensors is advantageous both from an ecological point of view and with regard to energy efficiency assessment. In addition, they are also convincing from an economic point of view, since thanks to the overall low energy consumption, costs are saved and the service life of the system is increased.

Recent developments have prompted DATA MODUL to cancel its participation in the leading trade fair for embedded technologies. The decision was certainly not easy for the management of the Munich high-tech company, but is the result of intensive consultations and risk assessments on the occasion of the current situation.

"We have been following the current situation very closely and have been intensively considering the possibilities of participating in the Embedded World 2022 Exhibition & Conference. The dramatic development has demonstrated how sensitively we still have to deal with this subject. The health and safety of our customers, suppliers and employees is always our top priority. We therefore see it as our duty not to risk incalculable consequences and also want to contribute to a rapid containment of the global Covid 19 situation with this preventive step .Even if we have to cancel our participation at the Embedded World 2022, we are still looking forward to the year 2022 with confidence," explains Dr. Florian Pesahl, CEO of DATA MODUL AG.

New to our portfolio is an 8.4" TFT display with XGA resolution from Kyocera. In addition to a resolution of 1024x768, the new display features a wide viewing angle of 85° (U/D/L/R) and an extended operating temperature range of -30 °C to 80 °C. Furthermore, the display has a brightness of 1000nits and 50k LED lifetime.

Equipped with modern wide-view technology and LVDS interface, the display is a good Mitsubishi alter-native. It is suitable for a wide range of applications in industry, telecommunications and automotive engineering.

Advantages of professional 4K UHD displays for industrial, medical and signage applications

For many industrial applications, high contrast and intensive colour representation play an increasingly important role. Whenever FHD displays are no longer available or large-format displays should be used, a switch to UHD is not only advantageous but often necessary. With a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels the 4K UHD technology corresponds to four times the Full HD resolution and offers a significantly better image display with high contrast values and brilliant colour representation. In addition, optional high-brightness technology ensures consistently high-performance readability even in strong ambient light. All of these features are of great advantage for use in industrial, medical or digital signage applications.

New to our portfolio are the new 15.6” and 21.5” multi-touch OFM (Open Frame Monitor) series OFM 15W00 / OFM 21 W00 by Avalue. Thanks to their open frame concept, installation is relatively easy. Customers benefit from higher flexibility and more available space for potential adjustments as the monitors can be easily integrated into different housing concepts. In addition, they support a wide range of applications and are used, for example, in factory automation for human-machine interaction.

The 27" LM270WR3-SSC1 by LG is now available. With the addition of this product to our portfolio, we are closing the gap between 23.8" and 31.5" in the UHD display range. We have also developed a matching control system: our eMotion UHD-II AD board control.

Thanks to IPS technology and a viewing angle of 89° from any direction, images are shown with a particularly high contrast ratio of 1300:1. The TFT panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2160, 350nit brightness and has an eDP interface. This makes it ideal for all HMI applications, digital signage, in medicine or even in the gaming sector.

Thanks to Super MVA technology, the tft has a particularly wide viewing angle of 89° (U/D/L/R) and shows content in a contrast ratio of 4500:1 with a resolution of 1920 x 532. The display also has an integrated LED converter and is plug-in compatible with the already available 29" stretched display series.

The new display is available in two different brightness levels, 500nits or 1000nits, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Requirements of current applications such as building automation, elevator terminals or in passenger information systems can be ideally implemented, not least due to the special 32:9 format.

Already during the selection of a suitable touch panel we offer the possibility to combine different FPC tails with a SITO touch sensor (tail bonding). We can optically bond the touch sensors directly onto printed cover glasses by using various adhesive technologies. Thanks to the fully automated and camera-based pick-and-place process, bonded touch/cover glasses can be inserted into bezel with high precision. Production-related gaps can - if necessary - be filled by gap filling.

When using plastic frames, we have introduced a plasma activation process that cleans the surface to ensure better adhesion. Alternatively, frames can also be bonded by using the hot-melt process, which offers a cost advantage, especially for high-volume projects. The final assembly and testing of products manufactured by us is then carried out on our flexibly configurable production lines. All work steps are set up according to customer and product specifications, thus offering maximum control over the entire manufacturing process. From simple touch displays to complex complete systems including installation of customer-specific software - our customers receive everything from a single source.

Since the beginning of the year we have the G238HCJ-L02 TFT by Innolux in our portfolio, which the manufacturer has meanwhile transferred to series production. Compared to the G238HCJ-L01 version, the display has a higher brightness of 450nits instead of 350nits, a longer LED lifetime of 50,000 hours instead of 30,000 hours and a built-in LED converter. The temperature range has also been extended from 0°C to 50°C to now 0°C to 60°C. Thanks to its high brightness and a resolution of 1920 x 1080, the FHD display is suitable for all HMI applications in the industrial sector.

This board is the basis for a fast, suitable alternative to LGIT products. Other niche diagonals are covered with metal mesh touch supplier MN-Tech.
